‘Lightyear’ Director Recounts Inspirational Journey to Pixar
One of the most anticipated films of the summer is being developed by a creative talent with one of the best stories in the industry, as the Lightyear director Angus MacLane took to Twitter to recount his inspirational journey to Pixar.
This year marks the arrival date of Lightyear, the highly-anticipated film that will chronicle the character behind the toy; exploring the Buzz Lightyear that would inspire the figure that became a mainstay in the Toy Story universe.
The films trailers first hit audiences earlier this year and gave hints at the beautiful animation that awaited theatrical audiences as one of the most exciting releases of the summer theatrical slate.
Now just a few days away, fans are as excited as ever for the arrival of the film, and marking the spectacular account was a heartwarming story shared on social media by the man behind the vision; inspiring everyone to stick close to their dreams.
In a recent Tweet, Lightyear director Angus Maclane recounted his inspirational journey to Pixar that resulted in more than two-decade worth of incredible work on some of the biggest animated features of all time
The post featured a letter from Pixar Animation Studios that thanked Maclane for his interest in joining the Studio as an animator but declined to hire him; noting that he required more experience from them to consider.
26 years ago today I was rejected by Pixar. I followed their advice and sent updated material when I increased my experience and education. A year later I was hired. 25 years later I directed a feature. Don’t give up.#Pixar pic.twitter.com/kOgJ0eWdiE

Maclane responded by doing what Pixar suggested, and it was clearly the right decision, as he was now the creative force behind a film that looks to be one of the biggest films of the summer.
A career that spans over 25 years, Maclane worked on iconic feature films such as A Bugs Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars, as well as a variety of well-received Pixar shorts.
We cannot wait to see what Maclane and company are able to achieve with Lightyear, as we cant wait to see his hard work be rewarded in a successful directorial debut.
