Pixar’s New Film Has a Title and Release Date!
Pixar announced the first details of their upcoming 2023 release this morning! The full length feature will be titled Elemental and will be available on June 16, 2023! It’s not yet been confirmed if the film will release in theaters or on Disney+ similar to Luca and recent hit, Turning Red.
Overview
Elemental is based on the four basic elements: fire, water, land and air. Each element has its own personified group of residents. The main characters are Ember and Wade, who appear to be members of the fire and water populations. Disney and Pixar’s simultaneous tweet about the two friends teases,
In a city where fire, water, land, & air residents live together, a fiery young woman & a go-with-the-flow guy will discover something elemental: How much they have in common…”
This certainly isn’t the first time Pixar as personified the non-tangible. The Toy Story and Cars franchises both gave emotions and personalities to tangible objects. Inside Out quite literally personified human emotions and then gave those those emotions their own human elements. Elemental follows suit, digging deeper into human feelings and adding the attachment to our natural world into the mix.

Pixar included the first look at early concept art for the film, giving us a glimpse at Ember and Wade in their Elemental world.
We’re definitely feeling Inside Out and Zootopia vibes with this beautiful illustration!

Elemental is directed by Peter Sohn, who directed the 2015 Disney Pixar feature, The Good Dinosaur, as well as previous work on The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille and Wall.E. Sohn’s quotes on the film, as referenced on Variety.com and other AP sources,
My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx. We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams — all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages, and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to Elemental. Our story is based on the classic elements — fire, water, land and air. Some elements mix with each other, and some don’t. What if these elements were alive?”
Upcoming Pixar Release
This isn’t the only Pixar release on the docket. The much-anticipated Lightyear, a Toy Story prequel of sorts, hits theaters next month, June 17!
