Disney Headlines for May 5th, 2022
This week in Disney Headlines, a wife notices her nanny getting a bit too close to the husband on Splash Mountain.
Also, we meet Sox the “cat” and discuss a wayward Apple AirTag at Walt Disney World.

A Tragic Tale and an Aggressive TikTok Feed
Distractify and several other sites have picked up a remarkable Disney vacation story that is already many months in the making. The whole thing is very Ethan Hawke.
Why am I mentioning the actor? Few people remember it now, but Hawke once married and later divorced actress Uma Thurman.

The cause for their separation was that Hawke fell in love with his nanny. This led to a scandalous divorce between the Moon Knight co-star and The Bride.
Yes, that dude divorced The Bride, which seems dangerous to anyone who has watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 or Vol. 2.
Notably, Hawke and his wife have been married for 14 years now. He likens their relationship to The Sound of Music.

A Disney vacation version of this story recently played out in a genuinely hysterical way. And I’m comfortable saying this because the wife has had a good laugh about it, too.
The woman in question, who operates the TikTok feed, IbizaDaze, was flipping through some Disney family vacation photos.

At one point, she paused and noticed that the nanny appeared to be sitting far too close to her employer on Splash Mountain.
Yes, the automatic ride photo showed them in a non-platonic pose. You can see it in the Distractify link.
The wife confronted her husband about the image, and their dream Disney vacation led to their not-so-dreamy divorce.
Her husband confessed that he and the nanny were having an affair and that she was pregnant with his next child.
The now ex-wife has explained the circumstances during several interviews as well as her TikTok feed.

I should warn you that some of her clips border on clothing-optional and use foul language.
Presuming you don’t mind that, you may find some of her insights on the subject fascinating:

Meet Sox

This summer, Disney is rebooting the entire Toy Story franchise by going back to the future.
Lightyear will tell the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the “To infinity and beyond!” character you know and love.
However, this Buzz won’t be a toy but rather a real space explorer…and an accidental time explorer as well.

The story involves Buzz Lightyear’s Star Command test flight going very, very wrong, catapulting him 66 years into the future.
While there, Lightyear meets the evil Emperor Zurg and must attempt to stop the villain’s plans.

Disney deserves a ton of credit here for its casting. Chris Evans will voice the younger, “real” Buzz Lightyear.
Meanwhile, James Brolin, the father of Thanos himself, Josh Brolin, will play Zurg. It’s an Avengers: Endgame revenge fight against Thanos’ dad!

Still, during the recent CinemaCon event, all anyone wanted to discuss was the toy expected to dominate the holiday market this year.
Sox, the robotic cat, absolutely delighted the early viewers of Lightyear.

They’re convinced this therapy robot will become the movie’s buzz character. (Editor’s note: that wasn’t intended as a pun, and I only noticed it while proofing the article.)
Erik Davis of Fandango went so far as to say, “Sox the cat is gonna steal the entire movie.” He continued, “Disney is gonna sell so many Sox the cat toys.”

Lightyear debuts in theaters in six weeks. So, we can all decide for ourselves whether these early viewers are correct…but I suspect they are.
Miscellaneous Disney Headlines
When you spend any time on vacation, you’ll inevitably encounter some weirdness.

Photo: Disney
I once had a nutjob hack my WiFi signal just to change my Verizon network name. The person loaded it with swears, and Verizon gave me a mega-credit for its security breach.
This story doesn’t quite have the same happy ending. Instead, a Columbia, Tennessee, family received an unwelcome message at Disney, one they didn’t even understand.

Photo: Disney
The pop-up message alerted them to the fact that they were being tracked via Apple AirTag. Of course, that’s a problem since they didn’t even know what it was.
Tourists use these devices to track the location of their stuff. It’s particularly valuable for luggage while traveling.
The family never located the AirTag. However, it had tracked their locations for the previous four hours. At some point, one of them had an AirTag on their person.

Once notified, the police indicated that this was likely a system glitch. But unfortunately, some pranksters are slapping Apple AirTags on people’s belongings as a joke or to be stalky.
So, if you ever get an Apple AirTag pop-up notification on your phone, take it seriously! Check your belongings immediately! Do this anytime, not just at Disney!

Next, I haven’t mentioned him in a while, but Rick Munarriz at The Motley Fool has posted another set of three predictions about Disney.
The most interesting of them is that he believes Park Passes will go away in 2023. I hope he’s right.

Finally, I’ll probably discuss these two headlines more in detail in the coming months, as both stories will only expand in significance.
For now, here’s Kotaku chiming in on Disney Dreamlight Valley, which they feel is perfect for Disney adult fans.
Then, we have the LA Times discussing Disney’s plans for the metaverse.
