Get Ready To Meet Sox the Funny Feline from Disney’s ‘Lightyear’
Hollywood insiders had a chance this week to check out the first 30 minutes of upcoming Pixar film Lightyear during CinemaCon in Vegas this week. The film is already generating a lot of buzz (no pun indented) and one of the aspects of the film that has attendees talking the most is a small robotic cat named Sox.
The ginger and white mechanical cat is already winning over audiences and is Buzz’s pet. This cute critter was gifted to Buzz after a mission he was on went awry. Sox is more than just a robotic cat. It is a therapeutic companion of sorts and can do everything from monitoring Buzz’s mental health to providing relaxing sounds to lull Buzz to sleep.
Get a closer look at Sox in the official trail for Lightyear below:
The film will officially hit theaters on June 17th. Though you just get a sneak peek of Sox in the trailer, visitors to ComicCon were able to check out longer scenes from the film that really gave a sense of Sox’s character.
Convention-goers are already predicting that Sox will be one of the hottest toys come Christmas this year.
So what is it that makes Sox so delightful? Like many of Disney’s other animal (and robot) companions, Sox is big on personality. As CNBC tells us, the cat also adds moments of “levity” during times of peril. We’re also told that the moments featuring Sox got the biggest laughs from the crowd.
Sox is voiced by Pixar regular Peter Sohn and the character has a dry sense of humor and is very blunt. Couple this with a caring nature like Baymax from Big Hero 6 and you’ve got a recipe for success.
So when can we expect Sox to take over the toy aisles like Baby Yoda from Mandalorian did a few years back? According to the CNBC post, Mattel holds the license for Sox merch and has already come out with plush dolls and action figures. You’ll also want to be on the lookout for Sox Funko POP! figures as well as a LEGO version and Pez dispensers.
We are now so excited to get better acquainted with this robotic feline when Lightyear comes out this Summer. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further Lightyear news and updates.
