Disneyland President Reveals that Paradise Pier Hotel is Getting a Pixar-themed Makeover
Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is home to two theme parks, a downtown shopping and dining district and three onsite hotels. Paradise Pier Hotel is one of those onsite properties and the only official moderate hotel at Disneyland. Now, the hotel, which is currently themed as a seaside retreat, is getting re-themed with a grand Pixar-inspired makeover according to Disneyland President Ken Potrock.
Yesterday we heard a bit of buzz around the possibility that big changes were coming to Paradise Pier. As you can see above, Episode 137 of the Inside Disney podcast confirms it with Disneyland sharing some additional details this morning.
So what do we know about this makeover?
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that Tokyo Disney recently opened its very own Pixar Hotel. It is a magical wonderland filled with tons of wonderful details from Toy Story! We wonder how much of the upcoming Paradise Pier project is inspired by the incredible outcome of the Tokyo property. You can find out more about Tokyo’s Pixar Hotel here.
Paradise Pier Gets a Pixar Makeover
In his interview on the D23 Inside Disney podcast, Potrock said that Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will soon begin a transformation, with this all-new theme! The reimagining of the hotel will weave the artistry of Pixar into its comfortable, contemporary setting. Guests will gain a new perspective on some of their favorite Pixar worlds and characters through carefully curated artwork, and décor that reveals the creative journey of the artists who helped bring these stories to life.
As Potrock said in his interview, Paradise Pier Hotel has great bones but is in need of a story! He also said that Disney will be making a ‘substantial investment’ in re-imagining the moderate resort which includes a Pixar-themed exterior, rooms restaurants, pool decks, lobbies and more.
More Than One Story to Tell
So what film(s) can we expect to be featured here!? Potrock said that the Pixar platforms give Disney so much to work with that a multitude of different characters and films will be featured. In addition Imagineers are re-imagining the property in such a way that will allow the resort to be constantly updated as new Pixar films come out! This will provide Disneyland with a way to constantly be infusing new content into the theme of the hotel.
Disneyland released an artist rendering this morning that showed concept art for the new Pixar Hotel lobby area. In the image, you can see, that guests will be welcomed into whimsical character moments, like the iconic, playful Pixar Lamp balancing atop its ball in the lobby.
Quick and Easy Portal to the Theme Parks
If you’ve ever stayed at Paradise Pier Hotel you’ll know that its not the most conveniently located Disneyland hotel to the theme parks. Disney’s Grand Californian has its own entrance to Disney California Adventure and the iconic Disneyland Hotel is just steps away from the monorail. Access to the theme parks is a huge factor in the Paradise Pier renovation. In the interview, Potrock said that Imagineers are currently working on a “portal” that will give Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel guests a convenient entrance to Disney California Adventure Park. How awesome is that!?
Now that Disneyland President Ken Potrock has spilled the beans regarding the Paradise Pier hotel renovation, we expect that more details will follow soon. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us.
