Fun Facts About Disneyland’s Fantasmic! Ahead of Its Return Next Month
Yesterday was a banner day at Disneyland Resort with the return of three incredible nighttime offerings: Main Street Electrical Parade, Disneyland Forever and World of Color. But that’s not all of the awesome fun returning to the Happiest Place on Earth. If you’ve been following along with us here at MickeyBlog you’ll know that Fantasmic! is also making a comeback and will be back at the parks starting on May 28, 2022!
For those unfamiliar, Fantasmic! is an emotional extravaganza of colorful Disney-animated story scenes choreographed to an incredible musical score and culminating in a 45 foot tall Maleficent dragon that breathes fire. Mickey Mouse dreams that he is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice and faces some of Disney’s most nefarious baddies where he must harness the power of his imagination to save the day!
Throughout the the show, guests are also treated to vignettes from beloved Disney films including Fantasia, The Jungle Book, Pirates of the Caribbean and more in production that includes live performers, character appearances, enhanced special effects and pyrotechnics.
We’re so excited about the return of this show that we thought we’d celebrate with some awesome fun facts!
Wonderful Water Projections
World of Color at Disney California Adventure isn’t the only place at Disneyland Resort where you can check out some awesome water projections. Fantasmic! features three 60 feet by 30 feet mist screens that help bring moments from some of your favorite Disney Stories to Rivers of America.
New Friends Added
Back in 2017, the show was updated to include new beloved Disney songs including “Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World” from the Aladdin.
A Ghostly Crew
One of the things that makes Disneyland’s version of Fantasmic! so epic is the crew of ghost pirates that man an eerie pirate ship! It appears on the Rivers of America and actually includes an incredible crew of stunt performers that execute duels and falls nightly.
Maleficent Soars to New Heights
A high point of Fantasmic! is when Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty) rises to a height of 45 feet 17 seconds before transforming into a dragon! The dragon is a 3D design that replicates the movements of the dragon in Sleeping Beauty. It measures 45 feet tall by 28 feet wide and weighs a might 18.000 poiunds.
Truly Monstro-ous
There are over 21 fountains and six “whale tails” in the scene where Monstro the whale storms across rivers of America!
Towering Feats
During the beginning of the show you may notice two light towers appear on either side of the main stage. During the day, the tower are actually kept 26 feet under the ground. When fully raised they measure up to 40 feet!
100 Foot Long Snake
Though many people think of the massive Maleficent dragon when they think of Fantasmic!, equally as impressive is Kaa from The Jungle Book which slithers across the stage at an impressive 100 feet.
Its Showtime
Since it first premiered on May 15, 1999, Fantasmic! has been performed nearly 11,000 times!
Tom Sawyer Sets the Stage
The main stage for Fantasmic! is located on Tom Sawyer Island and includes underground housing for many special effects. It was especially built for Fantasmic! By day it functions as a boat dock and cider mill for guests visiting the island.
We are anxiously counting down the days until Fantasmic! reopens at Disneyland! Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us here at MickeyBlog for more Walt Disney World news and updates!
