Johnny Depp Says He Won’t Return As Captain Jack Sparrow
Johnny Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard is well underway. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a piece she wrote in 2018 in which she called herself a domestic abuse victim throughout their relationship. In turn, Depp lost countless job opportunities over these accusations, including one of his most popular, Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Depp has said that Heard has ruined his career with false accusations.
When Disney caught wind of these accusations against him, they dropped him from playing Jack Sparrow. When he was giving his testimony, he was asked by Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, if he would ever return to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and this is what was said:
“The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film? Correct?” – Rottenborn
“That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.” -Depp
Even though Disney has fired Depp, they are still using his character in the rides and for merchandise use.
“They didn’t remove my character from the rides,” he said. “They didn’t stop selling dolls of Captain Jack Sparrow. They didn’t stop selling anything. They just didn’t want there to be something trailing behind me that they’d find.”
Disney has not released a statement on the case.
Johnny Depp has spent multiple hours in the last couple of days defending himself and giving his side of the story, claiming Amber Heard was the abusive one in the relationship. Heard will take the stand in the upcoming days to give her side. We will be following along.
