VIDEO: New Solar Farms Mean 40% of Disney World’s Energy Will Come From the Sun
How cools is this!? Disney revealed in a brand new video today that 40% of the energy supplied to Walt Disney World will soon be generated by the sun! In celebration of Earth Month, Disney announced that their available solar energy resources will more than double with two new solar arrays. These have been constructed by two prominent Solar Development companies and demonstrate Disney’s commitment to taking action to reduce our carbon footprint and power more magic at the theme parks and beyond.

As you can see from the video above the two new 75 megawatt arrays will be located in Gilchrist and Polk County and encompass over 1,000 total acres. This will enable Disney to harness the sun’s power without depending on sunny skies solely in one area. These new arrays mean that Disney will become one of the largest commercial consumers of solar energy in the state of Florida. This is also all part of Disney’s goal to deliver on their promise of net-zero emissions by 2030.
Both arrays are expected to be up and running by early next year (2023.) Together they will introduce nearly half a million solar panels which can produce over 375,000 (megawatt hours) of carbon-free solar energy in their first year of operation alone. To put this in perspective its like removing 29,500 automobiles from the roads every year.
