New “Moon Knight” Posters Loom at Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios unveiled new banners today celebrating the release of Marvel’s “Moon Knight” on Disney+. The high-flying art hangs outside of the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show near the Star Wars: Launch Bay. They feature two of the many personalities of Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector: Moon Knight and Mr. Knight.
Created by Jeremy Slater, writer and producer of Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy,” “Moon Knight” tells the story of Marc Spector. This character dates back to 1975 and really builds on the question, “What if Batman was mentally ill?” Spector suffers from dissociative personality disorder, giving him five distinct personas: Steven Grant, Jake Lockley, Inner Child, Mr. Knight and the suited vigilante Moon Knight. The new banners focus on the two suited personalities.
The first banner depicts the comic-accurate depiction of “Moon Knight.” The key features of the costume include the white hood with moon logo, glowing eyes, mummy-wrapping and the Crescent Darts that form the moon logo on his chest. The Moon Knight persona is a blood-thirsty vigilante that operates with little rules to carry out his justice. While effective, Moon Knight works best when paired with his other identities, including shown on the opposing banner: Mr. Knight.
Mr. Knight Masks Spector’s Identity
Mr. Knight was first introduced in a 2014 “Secret Avengers” comic run. His personality finds inspiration from a detective that works with police to solve crimes in a more civilized manner than his alter egos. According to Collider, “Mr. Knight is Marc Spencer’s personality to investigate a crime at night and work with other people while still wearing a mask and presenting himself as a hero.” This again aligns with the character’s origins as a Batman-like detective.
Mr. Knight’s costume also features an all-white ensemble. However, it focuses on a traditional suit jacket, slacks and tie with subtle patterns throughout. The mask is the most notable move away from mainstream professional apparel with a stitched-up rip through the middle that also uses a raised-up moon logo on the forehead. Only Oscar Issac’s distinctive eyes are visible through the mask as it stretches tight on his face similar to Spider-Man or Deadpool’s headpiece.
The first episode gave us a look at Marc Spector, Steven Grant and Moon Knight, so we still have several personalities (including Mr. Knight) to look forward to. “Moon Knight” premiereds every Wednesday on Disney+.
