Disney+ Working on ‘The Full Monty’ Series?
It was a movie that took the world by storm back in the 90s and would eventually go on to be a Broadway musical and now it looks like The Full Monty is heading to Disney+? These are certainly words I didn’t think I’d be saying today.
You may recall that The Full Monty was a British Comedy about six unemployed steelworkers who form a strip troupe to raise money. The film was a runaway success and even earned four Academy Award nominations.
According to a recent report in Bustle, Disney+ has reunited that cast and are working on a new eight-part sequel for the streaming network.
The news series will apparently get us up today with the original The Full Monty crew to see what they’ve been up to since 1997’s film. Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy and Lesley Sharp will be back in their original roles. Paul Barber, Wim Snape, Tom Wilkinson, Hugo Speer, and Steve Huison will also be back.
We’re also told that the original screenwriter and creator Simon Beaufroy and The Full Monty’s producer Uberto Pasolini, Andrew Chaplin and Catherine Morshead have signed on as directors.

Disney+ has said that the reboot will also introduce a number of new characters and will not focus so much on the “Chippendales” aspect of the film but rather how the gang struggles to navigate things like employment, education, healthcare but also continue the message that community can still triumph over adversity.
Disney+ has yet to announce an official release date for the series. However, we can confirm that filming has already started on location in Sheffield, England.
