James Gunn Says Fans Will Be Meeting New MCU Characters in Guardians Holiday Special
Director James Gunn has been busy on Twitter this week sharing some fun insights about The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which will be released on Disney+ this holiday season. He discussed both the run time of the project and possible characters in recent interviews and with fans online via Twitter.
The special was first announced by Disney last year and at that time Gunn did reveal to fans that the program will take place between the events of Thor: Love and Thunder (which comes out July 22nd) as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (which is scheduled for a May 2023 release.)
James Gunn first spoke about the project on Twitter last April when he shared a first look at the script!

Gunn has both written and directed the Holiday Special. In a recent piece in the Radio Times the director said that the experience of creating the special has been “totally ridiculous” and goes on to say, every day we can’t believe that we’re making it.” He went on to share his affection for the special saying, “We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before,” he added. “I can’t wait for people to see it.”
The director later took to Twitter to expand on his position:
I did say it. But I’m prone to hyperbole & usually think the current thing I’m working on is the best thing I’ve ever done. That said I really do love it & think people are going to be very happy this Christmas with what we’re creating. #GotGHolidaySpecial https://t.co/tUFmrILP2j

As you can see from the post above, Gunn admitted, I usually think the current thing I’m working on is the best thing I’ve ever done. That said, I really do love [the holiday special] and think people are going to be very happy this Christmas with what we’re creating.”

Further details on the special were revealed when Gunn started chatting to fans about the project via Twitter. When one fan asked about the running time the director revealed that it is a tv show and would not be lengthy like a feature film. Check it out:
