Disney’s The Jungle Book Has True Indian Animals
Disney’s The Jungle Book came out in 1967. It features Mowgli, a feral child who builds a familial relationship with a pack of wolves, as well as a black panther.
Of course, this is a fictional tale; however, some of the animals featured in the film either reside in India or have close relatives that make India their habitat.

About Jungle Book
Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 “The Jungle Book” novel follows Mowgli as he is raised by wolves in the Indian jungles. Mowgli’s best friends are Bagheera (the black panther) and Baloo, a bear.
Bagheera and Baloo attempt to convince Mowgli to leave the jungle and live in “the man village.” This way, Mowgli can avoid the dangerous Bengal tiger, Shere Khan.
All these animals are found in India, in some form or fashion. So, let’s take a closer look at each of them.

Indian Animals
According to National Geographic, Bagheera is a color variant of a spotted leopard that lives in Africa and Asia. Additionally, blank panthers are common in India.
A version of Bagheera’s good friend, Baloo, also shares his habitat. True, the 2016 live-action version of Disney’s The Jungle Book features a grizzly bear, which does not live in India. However, the 1967 animated film and the novel give Baloo characteristics of a sloth bear. A sloth bear is a unique species found only in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Approximately half of the world’s Bengal tiger population, an endangered species, lives in India. Of course, professionals and activists make efforts to preserve this beautiful species.
Next, Mowgli’s wolf pack family are Indian wolves. In fact, they are genetically identical to wolves from around the world.
It doesn’t end there, however. There are finally two other animals in Disney’s The Jungle Book that live in India. These include Kaa, the Indian rock python, and Hathi, the Asian elephant.
