The Dogs Follow Natural Instincts in Disney’s Up
Dogs have deep, natural instincts. Well, it turns out that the dogs in Up follow theirs, just as they should.
Disney/Pixar’s Up follows Carl, a stubborn old man, and Russell, a young Wilderness Explorer scout. Together, they venture out to find Paradise Falls in South America.
Up to the Challenge
Paradise Falls is the location that Carl and his late wife dreamed to visit. Carl and Russell meet Dug (talking dog) and Kevin (a mythical bird).
In fact, Kevin is a female who is being hunted by explorer Charles Muntz. Also, Muntz is Dug’s actual owner, and he owns a pack of dogs.
The dogs’ collars translate their barks into human speech. Charles Muntz trained his pack to track down Kevin; however, Dug is the only dog who tracks her down.
The Roles of the Pack
In case you don’t know, Dug is a golden retriever. Golden retrievers are ideal for hunting, fieldwork, assisting visually impaired individuals, and for search-and-rescues.
According to the American Kennel Club, golden retrievers are “built to retrieve waterfowl for hours on end.” But why didn’t Muntz’s other dogs find Kevin?
Well, they are different types of guard dogs. Hence, the other dogs are a Doberman pinscher, a Rottweiler, and an English bulldog; therefore, they are the best guard dogs.
Natural Friendship
So, no wonder Dug found Kevin, because he used his natural abilities to do so! It turns out, Dug is a loyal friend for Kevin too. Thankfully for Kevin, he also helped look after her throughout the film.
