Mixed Feelings, Woman Gains Disney’s DAS For IBS
A viral TikTok video features a woman who obtained Disability Access Service (DAS) at a Disney Park due to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Apparently, people have mixed feelings about this, for various reasons.
The Controversial Video
The TikTok video posted by @kaylaripp showed her party entering a Lightning Lane. Her caption read, “On our way to get our IBS disability pass to cut all the Disney lines.”
The video, viewed over 700,000 times, proclaimed mixed feelings among the audience. Some people wish they knew IBS was eligible for DAS; however, others said it was “sad” and there are people who really “need this.”
Disability Access Service Qualifiers
The Disability Access Service is supposed to help guests who have “difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability.” Also, Guests do not “cut” the line. Instead, they are provided return times for attractions that are comparable to the current standby wait times.
IBS causes abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Therefore, if you are a person diagnosed with IBS, or if you know someone who is, I’m sure you understand the reasons why IBS qualifies for Disability Access Service at Disney Parks.
The Main Concern
However, many believe the true concerns lie within @kaylaripp’s captions. For example, many question her caption that said, “how you rig the system.”
Some comments include:
- “We know IBS is a real condition and needs accessibility. No one is doubting that. What’s giving the ick is ‘that’s how you rig the system.'”
- “This doesn’t sit right with me, abusing the system when people with actual disabilities need these benefits. Embarrassing how tone-deaf.”
- “People upset have clearly never had to struggle with the urgency of IBS. Most of us don’t eat at theme parks out of fear for a flare-up while in line.”
- “OMG, you get it for IBS??!! I have literally waited in so many lines, just to have to skip the ride because it strikes, and I can’t make it.”
- “These comments need to chill. If you don’t have IBS, you don’t know how debilitating it can be at times. Not up to you to judge what she needs!”
Your Thoughts?
Perhaps it’s important to note that @kaylaripp said the video was “just for jokes.” She also explains that she and her sister had “over 20 surgeries” and “their own disabilities.” Meanwhile, another commenter validated that @kaylaripp does have IBS and there is “no need for the hate.”
So, what are your thoughts on this matter? Do you have mixed feelings? Of course, we at MickeyBlog desire for everyone who needs DAS to obtain it, regardless of their disability.
