PHOTOS: Buckeye the Baby Kangaroo Enjoying Lunch at Animal Kingdom!

Buckeye the baby grey kangaroo has recently emerged from his mother’s pouch at Animal Kingdom! According to one of his knowledgeable keepers who was kind enough to chat with me, he’s been born in his mom’s (Millie) pouch for quite some time, but has just become strong enough to emerge and live on his own!

Now, guests traversing the winding walkways surrounding the Tree of Life might catch a glimpse of Animal Kingdom’s newest addition in his habitat! Buckeye lives with his mom (and a pair of lappet-faced vultures you can spot in the background!) at the foot of the Tree of Life, where he’s growing, playing, and learning every day!

When we visited Buckeye, his keeper had just fed the kangaroos. Both Buckeye and Millie hopped right over to the bowl and started to chow down on the fresh eats.

Although Millie was never far off, it already looks like Buckeye is getting more sure-footed and feels more comfortable spending time on his own! When Millie was finished eating and hopped away from lunch, Buckeye confidently stayed put and continued to eat on his own- even without his mom there to supervise!
