Let’s Talk Sweet Potato Pie and Chicken on the Egg at Jock Lindsey’s
With only a few more days left in February, we wanted to waste no opportunity to share with you some of the incredible eats and treats you’ll be able to enjoy as part of Celebrate Soulfully a special Disney celebration happening in honor of Black History Month.
Today we head over to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, a beloved Disney Springs watering hole to meet Dee Swann! Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Dee remembers watching her mom and grandma work in the kitchen. Swann says, . “I started stepping in at the age of 10, helping them out in the kitchen.” Dee continues, “The kitchen became a place for her to bond with the two most important figures in her life and that’s what inspired her to embark on a culinary career that spans three decades.
Dee moved to Orlando five years ago and decided to seek out a job at Disney Springs to continue her growth as a Chef. . “I heard a lot of great things about Disney. I knew a couple of chefs here at Disney from the past and I said, ‘I’m going to do this.’”
The rest, as they say, is delicious history. At Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, Swann at the encouragement of her daughter reinvented the sweet potato pie she loved as a child. Currently on the menu, guests can enjoy Ms. Dee’s Fried Sweet Potato Pie. This delightful dish features a sweet potato filled pastry with spiced cinnamon sugar, maple bourbon sauce and roasted pecan crumble.
For her second creation Dee added a twist to a classic treat. Chicken on the Egg features buttermilk fried chicken atop deviled eggs in a hot honey sauce. She even came up with the term “modern soul food” to describe this treat!
If you’re lucky enough to be at Disney Springs this week than pop by Jock Lindsey’s to try Dee’s dishes out for yourself!
So what’s next for Dee? She has aspirations on becoming a sous chef! If these goodies are anything to go by, she’s well on her way.
