Magical Interactions Between Cast Members and Kids
Did you know that building magical interactions between Cast Members and children can help families feel more at ease while in a massive crowd at Walt Disney World? After all, parents have appropriate concerns about navigating those large crowds with small children.
What if a child meanders off, or if they get distracted and unknowingly run toward a character while you’re walking in the opposite direction? Remember, Cast Members are extremely helpful and want everyone to have a great time, so here are a few ways to build positive relationships between Cast Members and families.
Initiate Conversation
First, encourage your children to speak to Cast Members whenever it’s appropriate. That way, they will be more comfortable to approach them if an emergency arises.

Point out Cast Member uniforms and/or badges to children, so they can spot them more easily. However, keep in mind that Cast Members’ uniforms change throughout the parks, so show Cast Members to little ones frequently.

Remind your kids that Cast Members hang out with Mickey Mouse, explore castles, and are huge Disney fans too! Now, they have relatable topics with Cast Members, which helps reduce anxiety.

Cast Members’ Love Languages
Cast Members are excited about being in a Disney Park, and they love magical interactions. In fact, Cast Members enjoy talking to children (or anyone) about Disney.
However, they have a very important job…keeping everyone safe. Remember, they see thousands of people in a given day.
So, to avoid injury, Guests can’t run, sit on railings, or cut line. Be polite and respectful if they ask you to follow the rules, and remember that everyone must follow the same ones!
Model respectful behavior toward Cast Members for your children. Treat them with respect and be polite. Also, remember that Cast Members cannot control the weather, long lines, or a ride going down; therefore, don’t take out your frustration on them.
Handling Emergencies
So, if you show your children who Cast Members are, teach kids how to converse with them, and model respectful behavior toward Cast Members, then it will reduce fear and anxiety in children if they have to speak to them in emergency situations. Make sure that your kids know to approach a Cast Member if they get lost.
The next time you visit Walt Disney World, be sure to thank Cast Members for remaining dedicated to their difficult jobs. After all, Cast Members (in collaboration with you) create magical interactions.
