Sports Illustrated to Open Sports-Themed Resort in Orlando
Big news for all my sports fans! The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the iconic sports magazine, Sports Illustrated, will be opening a sports and “outdoorsy” themed resort in the Orlando area. The Resort is scheduled to be open by 2024.
This past Friday, Sports Illustrated made the announcement that they would be creating a brand of resorts, Sports Illustrated Resorts as it is being called for now, to be located in the United States as well as the Caribbean. The first Resort will be opening later this year in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Per a press release, the Resorts will be “Premium lifestyle resort and entertainment destinations that cater to Guests seeking participatory experiences.”
At this time, it is unknown where the interactive sports Resort will be open in the Orlando area. The plans call for these branded Resorts to be located near college campuses so it could be located near the University of Central Florida which is about 30 miles away from Walt Disney World.
At the same time, the location may be closer to Walt Disney World since it is home to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex and all the other main Orlando area attractions.
Once open, highlights of the Resort in Orlando will include:
- “Naskart” go-kart track
- “S.I.” City” open-air shopping center
- “Tail Gate Food Festival” food court
- Baseball field
- Batting cages
- Climbing walls
- Basketball and baseball-themed pools
- Lazy river
- Swim-up bar
The Resorts will also offer “eco-adventure lodges,” beach clubs, and golf getaways.
To bring this sports-themed resort to life in the Orlando area, a partnership has been formed between ADMI Inc., Experiential Ventures Hospitality, and Authentic Brands Group.
In the past, ADMI Inc. has worked on Typhoon Lagoon, Disney Cruise Line, and Universal Orlando. Authentic Brands Group manages the entire Sports Illustrated brand.
Executive Vice Chairman of Authentic Brands Group, Dan Dienst, said, “We are excited to expand Sports Illustrated in such a thrilling and interactive way, engaging travelers, families, and sports fans like never before.”
He went on to say, “ADMI’s vision for Sports Illustrated Resorts is to create a portfolio of immersive lifestyle properties that will become go-to destinations for individuals and families seeking active vacation experiences.”
