Vegetarian’s Guide: Top 3 Eats at 2022 Festival of the Arts
The Epcot International Festival of the Arts is my favorite of them all: the Broadway concerts combined with live artist showcases and beautifully-prepared food? Sign me up!
Now that I’ve been to this year’s Festival numerous times, I have compiled my top 3 can’t miss Festival treats for my fellow vegetarians (don’t worry vegans and plant-based friends, I’ve got something on the list for you too!) Without further ado, let’s get right into the list…
3- Croissant à la Truffe Noire d’Hiver
This black truffle croissant from the France kiosk has blown me away for two consecutive years here. The croissant itself retains that famous buttery and flaky consistence we’ve all come to expect, while SOMEHOW never being soggy from that creamy mushroom filling.
I can best equate the filling to a creamier, more decadent cream of mushroom soup. The pastry is always served warm, and qualifies as vegetarian!
2-Decadent Valhrona Chocolate
Layered decadent valrhona chocolate with dark chocolate mousse, chocolate brownie and Cassis Mousse make up this chocolate lover’s dream dessert at the Arts Fest. At first I feared that the textures of chocolate mousse, brownies, and ice cream would clash, but was I ever wrong! The textures and flavors of the contrasting chocolates make this dish one of my absolute favorites across any Epcot Festival!
The chocolate mousse and brownie are shaped into a gorgeous purple dome, while a frozen, very ice-cream like scoop of chocolate goodness is served on the side. The brownie that creates the base of the pyramid was my favorite- and richest- of all the chocolate components, while the two mousses combatted the heaviness with some lighter notes.
Unfortunately my vegan readers can’t partake in this one…but I’ve saved the best treat for last that EVERYONE can enjoy!
1- Stone-Baked Moroccan Bread
Vegans and vegetarians alike, this one was created with us in mind. This house-baked bread paired with Hummus, Fig Tapenade and Zhoug Dip was a huge surprise for me this year.
Not only was I shocked to learn how delicious Zhoug is (it’s a flavorful blend blend of garlic, chili peppers, spices and cilantro!) but also to learn of this dishs’ existence at all! You won’t find this item listed in the Festival Passports, but rest assured you can find it at Tangerine Cafe in Morocco during the Festival of the Arts!
The bread was served hot- not just warm, HOT! Accompanying the bread were three dips: a fig tapenade that aired on the sweet side, a traditional hummus, and that crazy good Zhoug I mentioned above.
The piece of bread was big, and broke apart easily to reveal a steamy, traditionally hollow center. My only complaint here is I wish it came with more of everything so I could spend more time enjoying it!
