“Beauty and the Beast” Prequel Placed on Hold Indefinitely
Set to begin filming this spring, the “Beauty and the Beast” original series that will tell the backstory the friendship of LeFou and Gaston will sadly have to wait to make its debut on Disney+. Due to a delay in creative pieces and scheduling challenges, the new limited series announced that its production is delayed with no timeline yet for its return.
“Sadly, ‘Tis true. We tried to make it all work but under the gun it wasn’t meant to be… for now. These characters and this story will live on, but sometimes the best intentions & reality collide & nothing can be done,” star Josh Gad said in a Tweet today after the story broke regarding the prequel in The Hollywood Reporter.

Just two days ago, singer/songwriter Rita Ora officially joined the cast of the long-awaited tale. Still, the “scheduling challenges with the cast also are a factor as some talent had hard outs for other projects beginning in August. With the window of availability shrinking, Disney+ has opted to put the series on hold for the time being. The pandemic, it’s worth noting, has made scheduling a considerable challenge as actors, writers, directors and factors like soundstage and location availability was turned upside down following the industry-wide production shutdown in 2020,” according to the Hollywood Reporter article.
The Tale of the Prequel Timeline
As the studio begins to construct a new timeline, they will also deal with the incredibly busy schedule of the show’s stars Josh Gad and Luke Evans. Gad also was set to serve as an executive producer on the prequel alongside Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, and Alan Menken. With the first three set to scriptwrite, the esteemed songwriter and composer Menken was set to work on the soundtrack composition.
