National History Museum Needs Disney Family Pictures
The National Museum of American History, part of the Smithsonian, put out a call recently for images of families enjoying the magic of the Walt Disney parks. In a post titled, “Disney Parks and American Stories,” the museum hopes to capture those quintessential Disney moments: Mickey bars, character meet-and-greets, and castle poses.
“We want to see photographs that show Disney Parks as you experienced them: posing with characters, kids worn out and sleeping, families, couples, individuals, people of all abilities, ethnicities, ages, on rides, eating together, looking at maps—everyday stuff! All decades and time periods, especially as Disney Parks change and evolve over time. We love candid and posed, even fingers on the lens are A-OK. We can crop photos for composition, so don’t hold back on blurry or double-exposed photos,” the post states.
In the submssion, museum curators ask that participants share a bit about the captured image, specifically requesting information regarding when the visit took place and the relationship among those in the photographs. The post also asks submissions to include a description of feelings evoked in the moment caught on camera.
Photos can span any era at Disneyland Resort or Walt DIsney World Resort. Blurry pictures are welcome, though the post does state that highest resolution images would be preferred. Also, “if you aren’t the child in the photo (or their guardian), we won’t be able to use photos in which a child’s face is identifiable. Same for Disney cast members,” the post states.
To submit photographs, send the image and a few sentences detailing the story shown in the photograph to NMAH-DisneyStories@si.edu. The museum asks that you make sure to include the name of the person submitting the image as well as the best way to reach those sending submissions.
