Walt Disney World Railroad Test Runs Spotted Today
With the Tron Lightcycle/Run canopy installed yesterday, the Walt Disney World Railroad surprised many today at Magic Kingdom. The long-closed attraction appeared to be running test excursions around the whimsical theme park, and many hope a re-opening date might finally be coming soon.
It’s always a good day when the Walt Disney World Railroad is testing.

The video shows the beloved train complete with crew making its way through its scenic, woods-filled route. Based on the angles, it looks like the train sounded its horn just as it passed by guests perhaps aboard the Liberty Square Riverboat earlier.
While the train closed just over three years ago due to Tron attraction construction, the Walt Disney World Railroad’s main station at the front of Magic Kingdom also received a stellar update last year. The new coat of paint and extensive refurbishments finished up during the summer just in time for the beginning of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” which honors the resort’s 50th anniversary.
With the glass canopy now placed on Tron, it looks like the railroad may be rolling its way closer to a reopening date, though no exact timeline has been announced yet.
Four vintage steam trains call the Walt Disney World Railroad home. The tracks traverse 1.5 miles of a relatively circlular path around the Magic Kingdom, which takes 20 minutes to complete. It also features stops in Frontierland and Storybook Circus in Fantasyland.
Both Walt Disney World and Disneyland feature a train ride in honor of Walt Disney’s love of trains, even building a small-scale train at his home that traveled the perimeter of a vast majority of his property.
