Construction Update: Work Continues on TRON Coaster in the Magic Kingdom
MickeyBlog is at the Magic Kingdom today and we couldn’t resist popping by Tomorrowland to see how construction is coming along on the TRON coaster!
We can honestly say that it is looking more magnificent every time we see it.
Lots of pieces of the project are really coming together. You can see the walkway of the attraction weaving its way up the left hand side.
The canopy continues to take shape.
We absolutely love how fluid the outdoor canopy really looks.
Disney has yet to announce an official opening date for the project.
However, the more we see the all of the pieces coming together the more optimistic we are about opening details being released soon.
For those unfamiliar, the TRON coaster will combine indoor and outdoor elements. You’ll board a lightcycle inspired by the TRON films that will whisk you on a fast-paced jaunt through cyberspace.
There is a similar attraction that has been dazzling guests for years at Shanghai Disney and if its success is anything to go by, Magic Kingdom’s TRON coaster is going to be EPIC!
For those interested in getting a look at the construction currently underway for the coaster, we recommend two awesome vantage points.
The first is aboard the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover which takes you around the periphery of the attraction from an elevated platform that provides fantastic views.
The second place is from Storybook Circus near the Barnstormer.
As you can see from the image below, the Barnstormer is a great way to get a sense of the size and scale of the project with Space Mountain looming in the distance.
This area also shows how the TRON coaster construction has completely taken over the area where the train tracks for the Walt Disney World Railroad once were.
The railroad tracks needed to be removed and the train hasn’t been operational since TRON construction has started.
When construction is completed, the railroad tracks will be rerouted and laid down again and the Walt Disney World Railroad will once again begin able to take guests to different stations throughout the park.
We are following construction of the TRON coaster closely and will continue to keep you updated.
The work on the canopy seems to be changing drastically from visit to visit.
Since we can’t see the part of the coaster that is completely indoors, this becomes a great way to track the progress of the ride.
Eventually the whole canopy will be covered adding an extra-element of space-aged beauty to Tomorrowland.
As you can see, construction workers are diligently prepping the canopy for the panels to be laid.
Above is a closer look at the actual track for the coaster.
The exterior of the building that will house the coaster has been finished for quite some time.
It’s very simple next to the highly stylized outdoor canopy.
From the look of the tracks, you can definitely see the guests are in for a wild ride.
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
