Disney Has Its Biggest Hit Since 1995 With “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog recently, you’ve no doubt seen our coverage about the runaway success of songs from Disney’s latest animated feature film Encanto. Chief among the songs storming the charts is “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” which has risen to No. 4 on the Billboard Top 100!
According to a recent piece in The Wrap, this means the song has officially surpassed “Let It Go” from Frozen in terms of popularity!
For those unfamiliar, the song was penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda best known as the creator of Hamilton. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” now has the distinction of being the highest-charting song from a Disney animated movie since 1995 when “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas peaked in the same spot back in 1995. Another hugely successful song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from The Lion King also rose to number 4 on the Billboard charts the year before (1994.)
Though it’s hard to believe “Let It Go” never managed to reach the number four spot on the charts stalling at No. 5 back in April 2014.
Since the release of Encanto over the holidays, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has become the hit that has taken the world by storm. But, that’s not the only song making a massive impact from the soundtrack “Surface Pressure” sung by Jessica Darrow in the film has gone viral on TikTok with many users recreated scenes from the film.
An awesome tidbit shared by The Wrap is that fans of the song have Miranda to thank from naming the character Bruno. According to Encanto director Jared Bush, the character was originally called Oscar. However, there were numerous Oscar Madrigals in Colombia and for fear of being sued, the directors sent Miranda some alternative names to play around with. It was Miranda who immediately landed on Bruno!
