Cirque Du Soleil Performers Mask Up During Last Night’s ‘Drawn to Life’
MickeyBlog was at a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s NEW Disney Springs show Drawn to Life last night where things were looking a little different than the first performance we saw. Cirque du Soleil’s latest Disney-inspired show, celebrating the art of animation, opened up at Disney World’s downtown district last November after months of being postponed due to COVID.
Despite the arrival of the omicron variant and the increase in COVID cases nationwide, the dedicated troupe of awesome entertainers have been doing their best to bring their scheduled performances to eager Disney audiences.
However, as you can image during the pandemic this is no easy task. As we’ve previously reported here at MickeyBlog there has at least been one instance of a cancelled performances due to cast members testing positive for the virus.
It seems that this wasn’t an isolated case and that performers are now taking extra measures to make sure that they are safe even while performing.
During MickeyBlog’s visit to Drawn to Life last night, we were surprised to see the entire cast masked up during the performance.
The use of masks while performing seems to be a new policy put into place to keep their team safe.
Though it did make for a slightly different experience.
Though no information regarding the use of masks during the performance has been posted online, their website does have the following statement:
“Should a patron or employee test positive or exhibit symptoms of the virus, our team is prepared to activate protocols and respond quickly to mitigate potential spread of the virus”.
The statement goes on to say, “We will continue to adapt these safety measures as the situation evolves, working in conjunction with local health officials and government authorities. Specific current measures will be communicated to ticket holders closer to the show performance they will be attending.”
Though new policies were in place during last night’s performance, we weren’t necessarily informed that this was happening before hand.
That being said, with testing going on pre-performance we understand that there isn’t always time to announce implemented changes designed to keep cast, crew and audiences safe.
In addition to the masks, we also noticed that some of the performers were missing from last night’s line-up.
For instance, during the previous performances there were always two stilt-walkers and last night there was only one.
In addition the unicycle troupe usually has six members and last night there were only five.
However, as they say in showbiz, the show must go one and the performers did an incredible job adapting to what we are sure were last minute changes.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog and we promise to keep you posted regarding and alterations or cancelations of Drawn to Life performances going forward.
The show currently runs at the Big Top on the West End of Disney Springs several days a week.
Performances are currently scheduled through until the end of the year (December 31, 2022.)
The schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday: 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm
- Wednesday: 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm
- Thursday: 5:30pm and 8:00 pm
- Friday: 5:30pm and 8:00 pm
- Saturday: 5:30pm and 8:00 pm
For those unfamiliar, Drawn to Life marks the first-of-its-kind collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Disney.
The show is described as a live acrobatic journey where the stage is transformed into an animation table. The art of classic Disney animation is reinterpreted through acrobatic performances, dazzling choreography and eclectic costuming. The production also features new Disney animation and is set to a soundtrack of timeless Disney music!
