Genie+ Issues Cause Long Guest Experience Lines During Marathon Week
Disney definitely experiences lighter crowds in January and February, but if you’re an avid yearly visitor you know that the crowds don’t officially die down until after Marathon Weekend.
We’re in the official run-up to the big weekend, and with the first race just over 48 hours away, the runners are squeezing in as much park time as possible before they hit the roads running. Translation: the Parks are CROWDED this week, and will be through the weekend!
Today at Magic Kingdom, we spotted larger numbers of guests queuing at the Guest Experiences kiosks around the Park than we’re used to seeing, even recently. While we stopped to take photos and ask questions, we learned the large majority of guests stopping by the kiosks were experiencing issues with the paid Disney Genie+ service.
With every single part of your Walt Disney World Park day revolving around a piece of technology (your mobile device) issues are going to pop up…but I can guarantee Disney never expected THIS many issues.
Since the launch of Genie+, you can stand at ANY Guest Experiences kiosk in ANY Park and witness throngs of guests line up citing issues with the new system.
Be it paid experiences not showing up after purchase, to the system not allowing all party members to be linked together, to something as simple as the Genie+ not recognizing which Park you’re in- there are clearly major issues since the not-too-long-ago launch.
I am confident that the system will continue to improve, but those improvements need to come much more quickly than they currently are, and really should have been de-bugged in the trial phase. Especially when guests are being asked to pay more for a service, they expect it to work…and it should!
