VIDEO: Disneyland Paris Shares a Sneak Peek at the Newly Reopened Sleeping Beauty Castle
Disneyland Paris has a 30th Anniversary to celebrate next year and to officially launch us into this momentous celebration is a newly reopened Sleeping Beauty Castle. The castle has just completed a 12 month refurbishment with majestic touches added like golden details, lavish mosaics and more!
This is the largest refurbishment to the castle since Disneyland Paris first opened back in 1992 and is the end product of a collaboration between Disney Imagineering teams and construction masters.
“It was the first time we undertook something so monumental. Certain effects have even been improved so that the castle’s structure will be even more resilient in the upcoming years,” said Tracy Eck, Art Director, Walt Disney Imagineering Paris. Eck supervised the work that was carried out for the 30th Anniversary renovation.
The theme park has a long history of collaborating with French and European craftspeople to build and maintain décor across the resort. The spirit of teamwork could be found through the castle refurbishment as well. Painters, electricians, gilders, craftspeople and more were brought in to bring this dream to life.

- There are hidden references throughout Sleeping beauty castle from golden snails to geometric gardens!
- The castle is 141 ft. tall with it’s tallest tower standing 55 feet high and weighing 15 tons.
- The updates to Sleeping Beauty Castle took 50,000 hours.
- 19,900 slate tiles had to be custom-designed and installed on the roofs using 19,900 hooks.
- 41,200 gold leaves were applied by hand to gild certain areas of the castle
- 1,200 liters of paint were used during the project.
- 14 different shades of pink were also used.
- Sleeping Beauty Castle is the most visited castle in Europe!
