Disney’s The Lion King Has Also Canceled its Christmas Shows on Broadway
In a disappointing announcement for fans, Disney’s The Lion King has announced that it will be canceling a line of shows on Broadway over the Christmas period.
Officials from Disney’s The Lion King announced today that an undisclosed number of COVID-19 cases has been detected within the production’s company. Therefore, the show has made the decision to cancel all performances from today through Sunday, December 26th.

This comes as a whole Playbill-full of other Broadway productions – including Hamilton and Disney’s Aladdin – are also making the tough decision to temporarily shut their doors.
This is understandably going to come as a bitter disappointment to theater fans looking to catch a show over the festive period. However, as The Lion King very reasonably states, “the wellness and safety of our guests, cast, and crew are [their] top priority.”
Both evening and matinee performances of The Lion King will no longer be going ahead over the next few days, and guests with bookings have been promised a refund at the point of purchase. Full details on this can be found on the show’s website here.
Performances are currently set to resume from Monday, December 27th. However, this is of course dependant on local restrictions and the discretion of the theater, and guests should keep an eye out for any changes.
