As you can see from the tweet above, Series creator lana Peña took to Twitter to share the sad news saying, “Just found out that [“Diary of a Future President”] is not moving forward with a season 3 at Disney. Of course, we would love to continue telling this story, but I am filled with so much gratitude for the 2 seasons that we did get to make.”
Diary of a Future President debuted on Disney+ in January of 2020 and aired through March of 2020. It was then picked up for a second season which came out on August 18, 2021.
For those unfamiliar, the show told the story of a Cuban American and future president Elena as she enters the 7th grade. The story was told with excerpts from her diary. Both seasons took viewers through the trials and tribulations of middle school and experiences that would shape her as the future president of the United States.
The series starred Tess Romero as Elena with Executive Producer Gina Rodriguez as grown up Elena. Also in the series were Selenis Leyva as Elena’s mother Gabi, Charlie Bushnell as Elena’s brother Bobby, and Michael Weaver as Gabi’s boyfriend Sam. Recurring cast includes Jessica Marie Garcia as Gabi’s colleague Camila, Carmina Garay as Elena’s best friend Sasha, Sanai Victoria as Elena’s classmate Melissa, Harmeet Pandey as Elena’s friend Jessica, as well as Brandon Severs and Nathan Arenas as Bobby’s friends Liam and Danny.
Pena created the series and served as showrunner and executive producer. The show was loosely inspired by Pena’s own childhood.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely her at MickeyBlog. Readers are encouraged to keep checking back for further Disney+ news and updates.
