Pitt’s Tre Tipton Is Disney Spirit Award Winner
As a Western Pennsylvania gal, this news makes me pretty darn happy! This evening, Disney Sports presented the annual Disney Spirit Award during ESPN’s telecast of “The Home Depot College Football Awards.” This year’s Spirit Award went to University of Pittsburgh’s Tre Tipton for the most inspirational figure in college football!
The award was presented by Disney Sports Vice President Faron Kelley during the virtual broadcast of the show which took place today at 7pm EST. You can celebrate with this awesome video below:
As you can see, Tre was notified of the honor by Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi at a recent meeting! We absolutely love his memorable reaction!
Tre grew up just outside of Pittsburgh where life wasn’t always easy. He struggled to deal with family tragedy and four season-ending injuries during his time at Pitt. Unfortunately this led Tre to contemplate suicide having made four suicide attempts and stretching his four-year college football experience to seven years.
However, Tre ultimately did not let his misfortunes bring him down and committed to seeking the help he needed for his mental and physical health. Now, he’s also looking for ways to help rescue others fighting similar demons through L.O.V.E- Living Out Victoriously Everyday which is a nonprofit he launched with a classmate. The goal of the charity is to provide mental health support to fellow students on campus and beyond.
Tre is also a motivational speaker discussing mental health around campus, at his old high school and in the surrounding community.
