Galactic Starcruiser Is Brimming With Out-of-This-World Details
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that this past weekend Disney Chairman Josh D’Amaro took us inside the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser which will be opening for 2-night voyages starting in March of 2022. During his visit we got a first look at the new lightsaber training area where the lightsabers used are about as authentic as they come.
Josh wasn’t the only one able to go inside the Starcruiser last week, as a matter of fact the writers over at StarWars.com recently spoke about their time on the Halcyon with even more interesting insights! Here are a few additional details we thought you’d love to hear.
Arrival
Though the building housing the Starcruiser itself is more reminiscent of a bunker, it isn’t long before guests head into the Launch Pod where things start to get pretty exciting.
Once inside the pod guests will be able to look up through a glass viewport to see themselves launching into space where the Halcyon Starcruiser awaits.
Arriving Aboard the Halcyon
Aboard the Halcyon, guests are funneled into a central atrium which connects to the main bridge. Star Wars.com describes this is as a “plush oasis” with red velvet benches. There’s also hologram shop signs while the main viewport shows ships buzzing around.
In what sounds more like a ride than a hotel experience, guests on the Starcruiser will feel a “gentle tug of motion” throughout the ship as you start to chart your course of the planet of Batuu.
Guest Rooms:
There are 100 passenger cabins aboard the Halcyon across four decks. We are told that there are another 13 decks that are off-limits and for crew members only. However, as we’ve previously mentioned here at MickeyBlog a huge part of the Galactic Starcruiser experience is having adventures unfold around you. We’re told that some of these initial off-limit areas may hold a surprise or two as your story unfolds.
As for the rooms themselves though they may look quite compact on the photos we’ve previously shared with you, StarWars.com tells us that each bunk can comfortably accommodate a guest that is up to 6 feet tall.
There is space to stow luggage beneath the beds and there are a table and two stools in front of a viewport offering an ever-changing view of outer space.
Incredible Onboard Amenities
Onboard you’ll find the lightsaber training room. There’s also the brig and a “climate simulator” that allows guests to acclimate to the weather on Batuu.
The dining area is “high end” with velvet seating and blue, green and gold accents. Impressive space-aged lighting fixtures cast a Sci-Fi glow over the dining room.
Nearby, guests will also find the Sublight Lounge. StarWars.com describe it as a “more relaxed version of Dryden Vos’ luxury yacht.” Inside, guests will find working holotables where guests can indulge in a game of sabacc. There’s also a bar nearby where adult travelers can enjoy some libations from around the galaxy.
We’re also told that a muster happens on board the ship. At this time guests will meet the captain of the Halcyon Riyola Keevan as well as the assistant cruise director SK-620 who is an astromech. Last but not least, you’ll also feel the presence of the First Order as Lt Croy and two stormtroopers can be seen pacing around the ship.
During the muster, the story really starts to unfold including the arrival of Chewbacca who boards the ship as a stowaway. There are moments, we are told, where his Wookiee howls can be heard from across the room.
As guest step right into the story line of Star Wars, you’ll be asked to help keep Chewie’s arrival a secret from the First Order. The goal is to distract the stormtroopers and sneak Chewie out of the atrium. As a reward you are able to learn the language of the Resistance along with a passcode that will become vital to further adventures.
Battle Stations
We’re also told that those aboard the Halcyon will undergo bridge training. All passengers will learn the ropes including how to operate shields, weapons and loader systems. Oh, and pay attention as you may need to use these newly acquired skills quicker than you thought.
During your training guests will also learn how to make the jump to hyperspace which consequently can also be felt throughout the ship! Before your time at the bridge is through more of the incredible storyline will unfold around you with important choices to be made!
“At Disney, so often you’re used to seeing massive scale, yet this is an incredibly intimate experience,” says Ann Morrow Johnson, the Disney Imagineer who serves as executive producer and creative director of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. “There are only 100 cabins and we’ve got lots of characters onboard the ship. And because we want it to feel like that elevated intimate experience where you really get to connect with the characters onboard, you have that personalized service from the crew members. You feel like this is an adventure that is happening to all of you as a community. This whole adventure is kind of befalling you together over the course of those two days.”
Engineering Deck
There’s another important deck that guests will explore during your pace adventure- the Engineering Deck You’ll need to think on your feet and adjust the engineering systems to avoid a bit of a catastrophe. Crew members will be on hand to make sure you stay on task during this part of your visit whether its pulling levers or buttons or using a “hydrospanner” to open and close some important valves.
Guests in the Engineering Deck will be faced with a series of puzzles like an out-of-this-world escape room complete with flashing red lights, puffs of smoke and more!
One with the Force
With all of this adventuring, its very important that travelers have time and space to brush up on your lightsaber skills. Guests will have the opportunity to practice using the sabers to deflect the blaster fire of a training droid. We’re told in the StarWars.com article that the lightsabers actually vibrate when activated adding to the believability of the experience.
During your training guests will also be trained to use deflecting shields to block more rapid attacks!
I don’t know about you readers, but the more details I find out about this experience the more excited I am to join the adventure. I’ll leave the link below for those interested in checking out the original article on StarWars.com. You’ll find some additional (spoiler alert) details that I opted to leave out!
