New Pirate Night, Broadway-Style Shows and More Coming to the Disney Wish
During this past weekend’s D23 Expo event that was held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World, a whole host of incredible details regarding Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship the Disney Wish were released. This includes an impressive array of entertainment from Broadway-style shows to Pirate Night and so much more!
We thought the best way to get you as excited as we are about these onboard happenings was to give you a quick recap of all the fun you can have on Disney Cruise Line’s 3 and 4-night Bahamian sailings out of Port Canaveral starting in 2022!

Signature Pirate Night with a Rock-and-Roll Twist
It wouldn’t be a Disney cruise without a special soiree for all you landlubbers! However, Disney Wish is giving the traditional Pirate Night a rock n’ roll upgrade On one special night of every voyage, guests of all ages are encouraged to don those tricorn hats and head up to the upper decks for a rollicking rock-and-roll extravaganza! Topping off this swashbuckling adventure will be very special fireworks at sea.
One of the highlights of the event is that it will be hosted by the famous Captain Redd, who you may remember from Pirates of the Caribbean at the Magic Kingdom. She’ll emcee and evening of fun that includes live music, remarkable stunts, special effects and a surprise or two. Best of all, throughout the evening, she’ll be joining her band for some killer guitar riffs that are sure to get your heads banging.

We’re also told that Captain Redd will be assembling a who’s who of pirates including Captain Jack Sparrow to help her unlock a sparkling treasure chest that lights the night sky!
Stunning Stage Shows at the Walt Disney Theatre
Similar to what you’ll find on board of all of Disney Cruise Line’s incredible ships, the heart of entertainment on the Disney Wish will be at the Walt Disney Theater.
On the Wish, this elegant 1,274 seat “show palace” will evoke the feel of being in an enchanted forest inspired by scenes from some of your favorite films. There is orchestra and balcony seating that spans three decks! The theater will also boast state-of-the-art technology including some of the most sophisticated projection mapping capabilities of any of the Disney Ships and a Dolby Atmos 3D audio system which is the first of its kind in the cruising industry. All of these elements combine for a transformative experience at sea.
A Treasure Retold – ‘Disney The Little Mermaid’
We can’t think of a better setting for Disney The Little Mermaid which is an original Broadway-style production that draws its inspiration from the beloved 1989 film. During this exclusive production, guests will rediscover the iconic scenes, acclaimed music and beloved characters in new and exciting ways.
The curtain will rise on an enchanted treasure checks at the moment it is discovered by a group of storytellers including a very special young woman with the power to unlock its magic. As that uncover all of the whozits and whatzits lying within the chest, the storytellers themselves take on the role of Ariel, Ursula, Prince Eric, Sebastian, Flounder. They ensemble put on their own contemporary take of the story making it about a young woman finding the power of her own voice.
Disney the Little Mermaid will feature innovative theatrical design, dazzling special effects, artistic choreography and a reimagined script and score. This includes:
- New Orchestrations – Favorite songs like “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” will enchant audiences!
- Stunning Scenery and Visual Effects- Unexpectedly playful scenic designs and state-of-the-art video projects will transform the entire Walt Disney Theater into a 360 degree undersea wonderland!
- Whimsically Wonderful Costuming – Contemporary interpretive costumes will reflect the shows unique blending of the modern with the mystical!
- Cutting Edge Puppetry – Fantastical sea creatures will come to life including Sebastian, Flounder, Scuttle, Flotsam and Jetsam with never-before-seen puppet creations.
An Embarkation Celebration – ‘Disney Seas the Adventure’
But the incredible entertainment doesn’t stop with Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Disney Cruise Line also announced another show during D23, Disney Seas the Adventure. When Captain Minnie hands over the ship’s helm to Goofy, mishaps ensue and your Disney pals quickly find themselves in uncharted waters.
On Goofy’s EPIC quest to discover his “inner captain” he comes across some bold and brave Disney/Pixar friends who help him along. This includes:
- Princess Tiana – Will teach Goofy the power of hard work to make a dream come true with a rousing musical number of Almost There from The Princess and the Frog.
- Crush and Squirt- These totally tubular turtles from Finding Nemo will show Goofy how to navigate the big ocean with a song from Finding Nemo – The Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom called Go With The Flow.
- Elsa, Moana and Merida – This royal trio will join forces in a powerful medley of Let it Go, How Far I’ll Go and Touch the Sky encouraging Goofy to head into the unknown.
- Hercules- When Goofy’s self doubt kicks in, Herc is there to encourage him to Go the Distance.
The adventure will culminate in a cavalcade of characters joining Captain Minnie and Goofy on stage during a grand farewell before leading guests out of the theater and into the Grand Hall for an unforgettable sendoff experience – the ultimate “kiss goodnight” to close guests’ first day on board.
A Reimagined Favorite – ‘Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular’
Oh and let’s not forget that we previously announced that the Disney Wish will also feature a newly reimagined adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin- A Musical Spectacular. This is a guest favorite show from across the fleet and is based on the beloved Disney animated film.
Iconic scenes and songs form the movie will be re-created on stage with never-before-seen sets and a theater-filling projection design. Highlights include a Vegas-style rendition of Friend Like Me a breathtaking performance of A Whole New World and a solo performance by Jasmine that was created especially for Disney Cruise Line by the one and only Alan Menken.

Maiden Voyage and Inaugural Season
The Disney Wish sets sail for the first time on June 9, 2022. It will specialize in of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from Port Canaveral, Florida.
