One Third of Walt Disney World Visitors are Purchasing Disney Genie+ Says Chapek
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that tonight was The Walt Disney Company’s 2021 Q4 Earnings Report. During the Investor’s call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed an interesting statistic regarding the popularity of Walt Disney World’s new Genie+ service.
For those unfamiliar, Genie+ is Disney’s new paid-for Fastpass replacement. Guests wanted to have front-of-the-line access to many Walt Disney World rides and attractions can opt to pay $15 per person per day to access the Lightning Lanes Genie+ system. In addition, guests can purchase premium access for a la carte rides and experiences via Disney Genie+ which includes rides like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Rise of the Resistance and more.
Since Disney Genie was first implemented last month, many have been curious as to how many guests are actually taking advantage of the new paid-for FastPasses. Are visitors taking to the new way of doing things or are they reluctant to pay for a perk that used to be free.
During the earnings call, Chapek revealed that in Q4, about 1/3 of all Walt Disney World visitors paid for Genie+. In all honesty, this number seemed to be a bit low to me given the popularity of FastPasses versus stand-by lines. However, by the time that earnings were reported on, the service is still relatively new with visitors perhaps not being aware the the perk.

In addition, many have been reporting that the theme parks have been quieter than usual during the Autumn months with many families still reluctant to travel. Smaller crowds means less of an interest in purchasing Genie+ particularly when stand-by lines are lower.
It will be interesting to see whether the number of Genie+ purchases increase as attendance starts to increase. This definitely seems on the horizon with both immunizations approved for children and the reopening of borders for international travelers. We will certainly be paying close attention and promise to keep you posted.
