Wine and Dine Brings Marathons Back to the Disney Theme Parks
RunDisney participants and Disney fans have so much to celebrate. This past weekend was the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon weekend marking the return of races to the theme parks!
This fantastic 4-day event featured a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and a Two Course Challenge (running both the 10K and half marathon.)
Last weekend’s races were a momentous occassion as it marked the first runDIsney event at the Walt Disney World Resort since early 2020.
Here’s a quick recap of some of the key moments from the weekend.
Things got off to a bit of a wet start with some rainy weather during the 5K which took place on Friday.
However, as you’ll see from the awesome images below, the weather certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of participants and their guests.
This year the runners celebrated the one and only Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by running 3.1 miles through EPCOT.
Oogie Boogie and Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas were the inspiration for this year’s 10k on Saturday.
As with past races, there were lots of participants who dressed the part for the 6.2 mile half marathon through Walt Disney World Resort. The race passed through Disney Hollywood Studios, Boardwalk Resort and concludes at EPCOT.
The weather improved for Sunday’s Half Marathon where runners tackled the mighty 13.1 mile race.
Best of all, Disney character sightings happened all along the route. One of the awesome characters that rarely makes an appearance but showed upon on Half Marathon Weekend was Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove.
Along the route, runners encountered various Disney character sightings, including Kronk from “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
The winner of the half marathon was New Jersey runner Megan Curham who not only beat all of the women in the field to the finish line but all of the men too! This was the thrid victory for Megan who also competed in the Wine & Dine Half Marathon in 2018 and 2019.
Oh and did we mention that Megan set a brand new race record 1:15:33.
There were more than 30,000 runners who made this weekend so magical.
Overall, the return of runDisney races through our parks was as magical as expected. To the more than 30,000 runners who made it happen, we say congratulations and welcome back!
