It’s the Electric Water Pageant’s Birthday Too
In case you missed it, Disney World is having a birthday party. Since October 1st, the theme park has been celebrating 50 fabulous years and the fun will continue for 18 months! But the celebration isn’t limited merely to the theme parks. The Electric Water Pageant is also marking the momentous occasion.
It’s been 50 years since guests were first one over by synthesized music, flashing lights and a flotilla of fantastic floats lighting up the night sky over Seven Seas Lagoon.
The Electric Water Pageant made it’s debut 50 years ago today! Earlier today I wrote and article about the Dedication Ceremony at Magic Kingdom that took place on October 25, 2021 and was presided over by none other than Roy Disney. The Electric Water Pageant was actually unveiled on the same day as part of the “Dedication Day” celebration.
Resort historian, Nathan Eick shared in a recent Disney Parks Blog article that the Disney Legend Bob Jani was responsible for the birth of the Electric Water Pageant. He was Vice President of Disney Live Entertainment at the time and began brainstorming about what he could do with the pitch-black skies of Bay Lake! He and his team came up with a whale over the water that would light up and the rest is history.

It goes without saying that upon its debut, the Electric Water Pageant was an immediate success and guests are still entranced by it to this day! Luckily for guests, Water Pageant remains a lovely little slice of Disney history. The only thing that has really changes are some of the tunes over the years. For instance 50 years ago you would’ve heard a special version of Baroque Hoedown while today you may here songs from some of your favorite Disney films like The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan.
To celebrate 50 Magical Years of the Electric Water Pageant, Disney has added some exciting changes. As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, the parade now plays a version of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary anthem “The Magic Is Calling” recorded in the same electro-synthe sound that has become synonymous with the show. A new scene has also been added depicting a illuminated Cinderella Castle.
