Christmas Sneak Peek At Holiday Services
It’s not Halloween yet, but Christmas is coming soon to Walt Disney World Resort!
MickeyBlog told you earlier this week about decorations starting to pop up in Hollywood Studios. Yesterday, Greg caught a behind-the-scenes glimpse of more festivities to come as he passed by Disney’s Holiday Services warehouse near the Magic Kingdom. The huge Holiday Services warehouses store all the decor used in the parks for each holiday season. “Everything in the World for the holidays”, if you will.
These big green leggy structures are metal tree stands that are used to set up the larger than life Christmas trees around the parks. And they aren’t just sitting around, waiting their turn. They’re loaded onto trucks, ready to roll!
You’ll never see the props once installed. Disney smartly hides these structural supports behind gifts, garland, branches and any other shiny festive items they can find.
We can’t be sure where the stands are headed just yet, but Christmas definitely comes early at Disney World. After the last Halloween festivities end on October 31, the Holiday Services crews get to work, transforming the parks from Halloween to Christmas, quite literally, overnight! When Guests arrive November 1, the iconic 65-foot tree at the entrance to Main Street is there to welcome them!
With this crazy fast turn-around it’s no surprise that there’s a lot of prep and staging that goes into the weeks leading up to Halloween. It’s a safe assumption that’s why these trucks were loaded waiting.
Merriest Place on Earth
Once the main decorations are up in the park, the holiday accessories will continue to spread over the next few weeks, with trees, wreaths, and tinsel covering not only the parks but each resort too! Disney World’s Holiday Services team works all year in preparation for their November efforts. In total the team provides decor for 780 location on 41 different properties between Halloween and Thanksgiving. That doesn’t include the ships of Disney Cruise Line or the Disney Vacation Club Resorts of Vero Beach, FL and Hilton Head, SC. What a monumental effort!
With Halloween right around the corner, we might be seeing more little sneak peeks of the holidays here and there. Stay tuned to MickeyBlog as we keep an eye out!
