United States Will Lift COVID Boarder Restrictions for Canada and Mexico in November
After 19 months, the United States land boarders between Canada and Mexico will finally be opening in November. However, there is a catch: All foreign travelers traveling into the United States will be required to be fully-vaccinated.
While a senior official of the Biden Administration announced that the Canadian and Mexican boarders will be opening next month for non-essential travel, an exact date that the restrictions will be lifted has not been announced.
Politicians on both sides of the aisle are praising this decision to reopen the boarders due to the huge economical impact it has had on several communities. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York estimates that the closure of the Canadian boarder has cost one county alone in her state around $660 million annually.
Gillibrand said, “This reopening will be welcome to countless businesses, medical providers. families, and love ones that depend on travel across the northern border.”
The United States lifting the land boarder restrictions will also make Disney fans living in Canada and Mexico very happy! As well as travel suppliers in all three countries.
Roger Down, President and Chief Executive of the United States Travel Association stated, “After months of closure, the reopening of United Sates land boarders to vaccinated visitors will bring a welcome surge in travel from our top two source markets of inbound travel, Canada and Mexico.”
Those traveling from Canada and Mexico and coming into the United States by land will be screened about their vaccination status. If there is reason to believe someone is not abiding by the vaccination policy, they will requited to show proof of their vaccine. The New York Times is reporting that there will be limited exemptions for unvaccinated travelers from Mexico and Canada, including children.
Those traveling by air from Canada and Mexico will also be permitted into the United States. However, in addition to be fully vaccinated, proof of a negative COVID test will also be required.
The opening of the United States land boarders between Canada and Mexico is a big step in right direction that things are slowly getting back to normal in the United States when it comes to COVID. I hope to announce that other restrictions will be lifted soon as well!
