‘What If…’ Writer Talks Season 2 and The Renewed Focus on “Character Stories”
Marvel has continued to dominate the entertainment world with the unending expansion of their lauded and revered MCU; with the finale of their first season incoming, the What If…? head writer talks season 2, and the renewed focus on character and humanity within the Marvel universe.
The simplistic, yet elaborately constructed, animated Marvel anthology series tells the tale of various realities that exist within Marvel’s multiverse; with these hypothetical stories being dubbed by gizmodo.com as, “the Marvel Non-Cinematic Universe.”
Although the premise, one that focuses on the various unanswerable questions of the multiverse, has now lent itself to the formation of one, interconnected, group of heroes coming together to do battle with a fierce enemy.
What began as simple stories crafted on the end of one question, we now have recurring characters and journeys of these different variants of classic and beloved Marvel characters.
With the first season of the series coming to fans today, the creators have spoken on various aspects of the show and its inception; while we now also have insight into the future as the What If…? writer talks season 2, and the show renewed focus on character.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the head writer of the animated series, A.C. Bradley spoke on the second season of the show already being written, and the development of the What If-vengers to save this Non-Cinematic Universe.
Bradley noted the focus for the season 2 writing team was too, “focus a lot more on the character stories and these heroes and showing a different side of them that people don’t expect and hopefully they can relate to.”
Bradley goes on to note the vital role that Marvels currently unfolding Phase 4 will have on the series; with many of those characters and story arcs coming into play with the series Season 2 plans.
Bradley noted, “We’re sticking with the anthology form, and it’s going to be all-new stories, lots of fun, new heroes, and pulling more from Phase Four than we were obviously able to this season.”
“Hopefully, well see hints of Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Black Widow characters.” Bradley concluded, “The fun of What If…? is that we get to explore the entire infinite multiverse, so we try and bounce around as much as we can.”
