‘Black Widow’ Set to Debut on Disney+ For All Subscribers This Week
The film that dominated much of the summer, and represented the MCU’s return to the theater, will now be available as Black Widow is set to debut on Disney+ for all subscribers this week.
The widely loved MCU installment original experienced a streaming release via the Disney+ premiere access package; we now know that the Natasha Romanoff solo film will make its way to all subscribers of the streaming service this Wednesday, October 5th.
The prequel film, starring MCU veteran Scarlett Johansson, tells the Natasha Romanoff story that follows the events of Captain America Civil War; a film that saw the former Avenger on the run due to her betrayal of Tony Stark and the American Government.
The film features an all-star cast including David Harbor, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz, and is directed by the accomplished Cate Shortland; with all participants bringing to life a beautiful story of a family made, and perseverance through tragedy.
With over a decade within the MCU, Johansson’s Black Widow has been revered by film fans as one of the world’s first true female superheroes; as one of the original six Avengers, Romanoff has been a constant source of strength and capability throughout her MCU existence.
Despite the success of the film, and the adoration of the character, the controversy did strike Marvel and Black Widow after a proposed lawsuit against Disney was put in motion by the film’s star, and producer, Scarlett Johansson.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic forced Disney to alter the originally intended distribution method for the film- opting for a dual release in theaters, and on Disney+ via the Premiere Access Package- which impacted the contractual commitment The Walt Disney Studio had made to Johansson.
The proposed legal action occurred because of Johansson’s claim that the alteration of the distribution method impacted the actress’s ability to recoup the agreed upon compensation.
Despite the relevance of the lawsuit, the two sides did settle; with the settlement including the continued collaboration between Disney and Johansson for the foreseeable future.
The settlement occurred just in time, as Black Widow is set to debut on Disney+ to all subscribers this week; allowing those who have yet to see the film, or those who saw it in theaters, to watch the film starting this Wednesday!
