Marvel Reveals First Look At MCU’s First LGBTQ+ Couple With Brand New ‘Eternals’ Trailer
With the highly anticipated Eternals just a month away, fans are excited to see the adventures of the world’s earliest superhero; a brand new trailer has also given fans new footage, as Marvels reveals first look at MCU’s first LGBTQ+ couple with a new trailer.
The battle to protect the world from the ever-present deviant threat will come to a head this November, as the oldest race of the MCU will fight for humanity against Kro and the emergence.
A brand new cast of characters will be introduced, with the superpowered family of Eternals coming together after centuries apart; joining to combat this growing threat.
The trailer features a lot of scenes already revealed throughout the promotional campaign for the film; what is new, however, is the clearest picture we have of the MCU’s first gay couple.

Marvel reveals a first look at the MCU’s first LGBTQ+ couple with the newest trailer posted on Instagram; it displays Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, with his partner and children, meeting Ikaris and Sersi in front of his suburban home.
The introduction of Phastos’ sexual orientation is met with immense normalcy; with the familial life of the character being placed front and center of a quick moment in the trailer.
The scene has added humor, as a young boy- who we can assume to be Phasto’s son- proclaims that he has seen Ikaris on TV shooting lasers and wearing a cape; which Ikaris answers by proclaiming, “I don’t wear a cape.”
The joke was certainly confronting the similarities between Richard Maddens Ikaris and DC’s Superman; With the flight, laser vision, and superhuman strength adding to the comparison.
The presence of an LGBTQ+ couple who exude such a sense of normalcy is certainly one of the best efforts of diversity and representation that Marvel has since attempted.
An obvious point of emphasis for the studio, to ensure inclusive films are woven into the DNA of the MCU seems a clear incentive for Marvel head Kevin Feige and his many director collaborations; Chloe Zhao adds to this through her choices in the Eternals.
