50th Anniversary Rededication of Walt Disney World
On October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World opened to Guests, and an official grand opening and dedication occurred shortly thereafter. Tonight, the 50th-anniversary rededication of Walt Disney World took place at the Magic Kingdom.
The Original Dedication in 1971
The original dedication of Walt Disney World Resort took place on October 25, 1971. Also, Roy O. Disney read the dedication plaque with Mickey Mouse at his side.
The plaque said, “May Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who come to this happy place … a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn together.”
Additionally, Walt Disney World on Parade traveled through the Magic Kingdom. The parade was led by Mickey Mouse and included 5,000 performers, as well as a 1,076 piece ceremonial marching band.
Walt Disney World’s Rededication
First, tonight’s rededication began with a performance by Christina Aguilera singing a medley from Mulan. Aguilera gives the audience gorgeous renditions of these beloved songs!
Next, Disney Executive Chairman, Bob Iger, takes the stage. Iger appropriately thanks current and former Cast Members in his speech, since they are the true Disney magic.
Finally, Bob Chapek, the current Disney CEO, speaks about the new and immersive stories Disney continuously provides to all dreamers. Together, Bob Iger and Bob Chapek give an overview of the history of Walt Disney World, as well as hope for the future.
Then, the official 50th-anniversary rededication commences with music and the fireworks’ blast. The audience hears, “Dreamers of all ages, in just a few moments…we will proudly debut Disney Enchantment.” Ladies and gentlemen, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” is underway!
