‘Shang-Chi’ Now Holds the Title of Highest-Grossing Domestic Release of 2021
Box office figures are coming in for last weekend’s returns and we want to give a HUGE congratulations to all those involved with Shang-Chi.
The film continues to outperform at the domestic box office. According to a recent piece on CNBC the film topped the charts again last week. This makes it four consecutive weeks at number one.
But wait, there’s even better news! This strong finish over the weekend means that Shang-Chi now holds the distinction of being “the highest grossing domestic release” of 2021.
Since it debuted on September 3rd, Shang-Chi has brought in over $196.5 million in the US and Canada alone and beating out F9 and Black Widow in the process.
Shang-Chi was one of the first films to get a theatrical-only release by Disney during the pandemic. Do to the success of this release strategy, Disney made the decision to release the rest of their schedule films for the year exclusively at theaters.
As CNBC tells us, to date, Shang Chi has brought in $363.4 million globally making it (so far) the fourth highest performing film of 2021.
Here at MickeyBlog we’d wager that film will continue to surpass expectations, this is a story that we will continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep checking back with us for further Marvel news and updates.
