Look Back at Walt’s Thoughts On Walt Disney World
As we get ready for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary which officially kicks off on Friday, it’s hard not think about the man who started it all – Walt Disney.
Though Walt would pass away before he had a chance to see this entire project come to life, it was definitely his vision that informs everything from the theme parks to the resorts.
Referred to as the ‘Florida Project’ Walt Would take to the media in the years Disney World was being developed to share how the development of this beloved theme park is going.
Disney recently commemorated Disney World’s 50th Anniversary by sharing some of Walt’s most beloved and often quoted statements on Disney World. Let’s look at a few.
On November `15, 1955, Walt Disney officially confirmed that the Florida Project was getting the greenlight. He said: “After taking a look at the land this morning, I say we are starting from scratch. We have many things in mind that could make this unique and different than Disneyland.”
Though it was hard to see the vision when look at the Florida swamplands, it was a collective dream that Walt shared with his company saying, “To have this enthusiasm on the part of our whole organization and on the part of the people of the state of Florida really is a good start.”
Walt was a believer that this new theme park development would put central Florida on the map and boy was he right! He said at the time, “We hope what we develop here will be a real credit to the state, a credit to the Disney organization.”
Almost a year later, Walt would address the media regarding the construction of his Experimental Prototype of Tomorrow.
From these early interviews you can get a real sense of how meticulously thought out Walt’s plans were. When asked about the project, Walt Disney said, “We know what our goals are; we know what we hope to accomplish. And believe me, it’s the most exciting and challenging assignment we have ever tackled at Walt Disney Productions.” He would go on to describe the future location, “Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland – the blessing of size. There is enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine.”
Though not related to the construction of Walt Disney World directly, I’m sure many of us Disney fans will have Walt in our minds a lot over the next few weeks. With that in mind her are handful of other awesome quotes to add to your social media!
