Contemporary’s Iconic Sign Receiving Refurb Before 50th Anniversary!

The iconic opening-day sign that has famously welcomed guests to Disney’s Contemporary Resort since 1971 is in the process of receiving a little refurbishing. We spotted workers toting power tools and levels towards the sign on a drive past the Contemporary today.

The iconic sign- which was created in the same shape as the Contemporary’s A-Frame hotel structure- appeared to have some worn-looking letters in need of attention. 

Power tools are necessary for a job like this!

The workers were focusing their attention on the ‘R’ as I was driving past. Looking closer, you can see that the worker has removed the letter and is working on it separately from the sign. Looks like his job is to spruce up the letter then re-fasten it to the sign!

Between the new Incredibles-themed rooms inside and the ongoing outdoor refurbishments like this one, one thing is clear; Disney wants the Contemporary to look as bright and new as it did on opening day in1971!
