Disney Magic Makers Celebrates Neighbors Near You
Next week, the United States celebrates National Neighbor Day on Tuesday. In honor of the momentous day, Disney and Nextdoor canvassed the country looking for stories of Magic Makers within communities. Now, many of those inspirational stories are being shared to mark the occasion.
After receiving over 28,000 nominations over the past few weeks, the new interactive site features the stories of 14 individuals making a difference in regions throughout the nation.
In celebration of #NationalNeighborDay on Sept. 28, Disney and @Nextdoor have created an interactive map showcasing where and how magic is being made in neighborhoods across the country. With nominations from all 50 states, according to the site, five states topped the list of number of names submitted. Those states include Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, California, and Florida. The five states combined represent 39 percent of the total nominees, the site states.
“We are incredibly inspired by the inspirational acts of kindness, compassion, and creativity we see happening in neighborhoods everyday. Nextdoor’s purpose is to cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on and we are proud to work with a company like Disney that shares our value of celebrating the magic that takes place in communities around the world,” said Nextdoor Head of Business Marketing and Strategy Emma Mondolino in a release.
Celebrating the Magic Makers
Piggybacking on the Disney Magic Maker campaign, the program in coordination with Nextdoor will continue on as the company continues to look for submissions. Those wishing to nominate someone can use a link at the bottom of the new website. In fact, 50 MagicMakers will win a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort later this year as well as a one-year subscription to Disney+.
“We encourage you to also share your stories on social media using #DisneyMagicMakers! We’ll be checking Nextdoor, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and Facebook for extraordinary stories of those who have gone above and beyond to create magic. Recognize the #DisneyMagicMakers in your neighborhood,” states Disney on their Disney Magic Makers page.
So far, the wealth of nominees have taken great effort to help pediatric patients, underserved populations, communities impacted by COVID-19, animals in urgent distress. Of course, many stories also focus on people helping their neighbors, family and friends, according to the website. Make sure to check out the site for their inspiring stories. Also, watch for the names of those contest winners in the near future.
