Disney Theme Parks and Musical Memories Go Hand-In-Hand
If you’ve been following along with us here at MickeyBlog you’ll know that EPCOT’s brand new show Harmonious debuting on October 1st, centers around the importance of Disney storytelling with a HUGE emphasis on the role music plays in furthering the story and the ways in which it unites people around the world.
That’s why we’re so glad that Steven Miller is continuing his series on the Disney Parks Blog with a focus on the role theme park music has played in inspiring generations of fans!
Now, we turn to Spotify or iTunes to re-experience the magic of theme park tunes from Grim Grinning Ghosts to There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. However, back in the early days of Walt Disney World, it was all about the vinyl. Miller even recalls that during one of his early EPCOT visits his family picked up a copy of the “Official Album Center.” With vinyl making a huge comeback and as an avid collector what I would give to have a copy of that in my collection.
That’s just one of many Disney albums that have been available to purchase at the parks. Other oldies but goodies included Official Album of Disneyland and Walt Disney World, The Orange Bird and more.
And who remembers visiting Disney World’s downtown shopping districts where there were make-your-own CD kiosks in the 90’s!? These beauties could be tailored to include your favorite tunes for the perfect holiday memento!
If you look closely next time you walk down Main Street U.S.A in the Magic Kingdom you’ll even see a tip-of-the-hat to two very important musical magic makers. Next time you’re strolling through the park look for this window featuring the names G. Bruns and B. Baker.
Bruns was hired by Disney to create the score for Sleeping Beauty. In addition he wrote The Ballad of Davy Crockett and provided music for other noteworthy films including Babes in Toyland and Robin Hood. At the theme parks he contribute music to two of my personal favorites- Pirates of the Caribbean and Country Bear Jamboree.
Then there’s Buddy Baker who composed over 200 scores for Disney films, televisions and theme parks! Talk about prolific. Buddy composed music for Future World and World Showcase including for The Land pavilion, the American Adventure and “Impressions de France.”
Miller teased that Disney World will soon be releasing and official Walt Disney World playlist and I for one am here for it. Keep following along with and we promise to keep you posted.
