VIDEO: Aulani Celebrates 10 Years With This Magical Mele
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii just celebrated its 10 birthday!
There were many ways that Disney marked this momentous occasion but we’ve got one more important way to share with you!
Music has always played a big role at Aulani and in Hawaiian Culture. From the deep reverence of Keali‘i Reichel’s Music of the Maka‘ala, welcoming guests into the grand lobby, to Mele from Aunty’s Beach House, a collection of favorite Disney songs produced by Kenneth Makuakane and recorded in ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i, Hawaiian language, for all to enjoy throughout the resort.
That’s why, it only seems fitting that to celebrate the first decade of Disney’s incredible Hawaiian, a brand new song or mele was created for the resort. Titled ‘Aulani, Lei Hiwahiwa this piece was.written, performed and recorded by two of Aulani’s own cast members Angela Morales and Eric Lee to mark this important day.
The piece is an ode to the history and legends of the Hawaiian islands, from its evolution and growth to the stories and legends that captivate visitors of all ages to this day.
What I love most about this new mele is that it showcases the incredible talent you’ll find at Aulani Resort. In the video below, you’ll see Angela and Eric who can often be found in their roles as Aunty and Uncle at the resort. But did you know that they’re also award-winning musical artists!?
Yup! These two have even won several Nā Hōkū Hanohano award which celebrates Hawai’i’s recording industry.
