Gorillas Introduce Baby Name at Animal Kingdom
The darling new baby gorilla born last month at Disney’s Animal Kingdom delighted crowds recently as it debuted at the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Today, Disney Parks Blog revealed the new infant’s name with some very special help.
Kerri D’Ancicco, an primate/carnivor caretaker at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, hosted the darling announcement posted earlier today. She described the importance of enrichment activities for the animals and how keepers used that idea to inspire the big reveal.

“Enrichment is something that we use and put out in that habitat so that the gorillas can be mentally stimulated, and then spend their day exploring their habitat in a natural way,” D’Ancicco said in the video.
Using rice cereal, the animal caretakers built a scavenger hunt of sorts. At one point in their hunt for the special treat, the lowland gorillas revealed the little lady’s new name: Ada.
“Ada’s name means first daughter [to the Igbo people of Nigeria], and we chose that because Azizi has two sons, but Ada is her first daughter,” D’Ancicco explains in the video.
The new western lowland gorilla calls Azizi and Gino parents and often can be spotted snuggling with her mom against the gorilla viewing window on the trail, as it is their favorite spot in their habitat, according to D’Ancicco.
An Abundance of New Babies Join the Pack
Recently, Disney’s Animal Kingdom welcomed a number of new infants and celebrated some important milestones. A baby hippo joined the bloat just two days before Ada’s arrival.
A baby zebra as well as a baby giraffe preceeded those two births in June, and a baby mandrill was born in April.
Animal Kingdom caretakers had even more to celebrate recently though.

The first aardvark ever born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom turned one recently, and the caretakers made sure to throw him and his mother a spectacular party to mark the occasion.
