Anthony Mackie Officially Set to Star in Captain America 4
After plenty of rumors that have circled the subject of Sam Wilson’s future in the MCU, it appears as though Anthony Mackie is officially set to star in Captain America 4!
One of the great triumphs of Marvel’s 2021 was the incredible debut of the Studio’s various Disney+ exclusive series; chief among those successes was none other than The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
The series was a massive hit for the company and established Sam Wilson as the MCU’s next inheritor of the Captain America legacy, and the rightful carrier of the Captain America shield.
The success of the series led to many clamoring for the return of those two beloved characters; with the news earlier last year noting that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier writer, Malcolm Spellman, was being chosen by Marvel to pen a script for a movie follow up to the series.
It appears as though the series star, Sam Wilson-himself, isn’t going anywhere as Anthony Mackie is officially set to star in Captain America 4.
As reported by comicbook.com, Anthony Mackie has officially signed a contract to appear in the film follow up to the series, and continue carrying the mantle as the MCU’s Captain America.
Although the film is in the incredibly early stages, we do know Spellman will collaborate with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier staff writer Dalan Musson to construct the story for the sequel film.
Although no director has signed on to head the project, the development stages seem immensely promising with Spellman and Musson building off of the momentum gained in the incredibly successful series.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier confronted incredibly pertinent issues for contemporary America and highlighted parts so the Black struggle that is uniquely American; and that have never been previously explored by Marvel Studios.
Anthony Mackie spoke with comicbook.com to discuss that internal struggle Wilson faced when confronted with whether he should carry on the legacy of Captain America or not.
When asked why Wilson has such conflict, Mackie stated the following,
Well, because the shield belongs to Steve, and you know, Sam got into this becasue of his relationship with Steve. Sam wasn’t waiting in the wings hoping and waiting to become Captain Ameirca,
The whole goal and idea was to save he rowld with Steve. So if hee’s Cap, that means Steve is no longer with him.
The excitement has already begun for Captain America 4; with the unquestioning success of the series, one can only hope for a similar dominance from the story we confront in the film.
