First Look at Beacons of Magic Lighting System Coming to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT
To get ready for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” iconic landmarks in each of the four parks are being equipped with Beacons of Magic as a way to invite Guests from around the world to join in the occasion. Just today, Walt Disney Imagineer, Zack Riddley, shared with us on Instagram a behind the scenes look at the installation of the Beacons of Light on Spaceship Earth in EPCOT along with our first look at the illuminated lightning system!

In the post, Riddley introduces us to the Walt Disney Imagineers who have been working on the Beacons of Magic system for Spaceship Earth. The team, led by Jason Read and Galen Lande, have been hard at work using a “pre-cueing system to per-visualize and program this new system virtually: which allows them to “test many different ideas before locking in” the best look.
During this process, these Imagineers have discovered some pretty neat effects that will drastically transform the surface of Spaceship Earth and give it “an entirely new feeling and visual identity viable from all corners of the park!”

Once complete, the Beacons of Light on Spaceship Earth will also tie into the areas in the surrounding Main Entrance Plaza including the recently-debuted fountain and pylons creating a truly immersive experience that is special and unique to EPCOT.
